Ever wonder what other bloggers are saying about you or your specific niche?
Jack Humphrey just commented on an article that I wrote on a few days ago, The Very Best Successful Blogs.
The reason he responded to the blog post was because I included him in the web sites that I visit most often. That;s great, I do visit his website quite often. But my question is, How Did Jack know that I had written about him?
There’s at least 4 Alerts that I know of for discovering what someone has written about you:
- You receive a ping from the writer when they include a link to your webpage
- You hear the voice of God
- Your ear starts itching
- Use a tool to monitor categories or keywords about you or your niche
Let’s analyze these monitoring methods and try and choose the best alert for you.
- Receiving a ping makes it obvious that someone has written about you.
- I’m going to go ahead and rule out this way to discover if someone is talking about you or your blog because God doesn’ t usually alert us about what is going on on the internet
- Scratch the itching ears thing, this is reserved for grandmas and is not specific enough
That leave’s us with the 4 way to monitor what’s happening on the internet. The use of a tool to alert you when someone writes about you or your chosen nitch.
As part of the 31 Days to a better blog challenge, Darren Rowse has written an article entitled “Set Up ‘Alerts’ to Monitor What is Happening in Your Niche [Day 10 - 31DBBB]”
He includes these 5 reasons to monitor what other’s are saying on the internet:
- For ideas for Posts
- To be Aware of Breaking News
- Profile Building and Perceived Expertise
- For Networking Purposes
- To Management Your Reputation
Darren also goes a step further and lists a few tools fo setting up a a variety of ‘alerts’ or ‘watch lists’ for your blog’s niche.
I’d like to concentrate on some of the services around to help you keep track of what people are writing. You may know of some better tools and if so, please suggest those that you use in comments below.
Tools and Services To Monitor and Alert You About What People Are Writing About On The Internet.
Rather than a written explanation of the following tools I’ve decided to do a short video.
Blog Talk Monitor I bet this is how Jack Humphrey found out that I was talking about him
