Last week I checked my website and there was no database attached. No posts or pages. Naturally I was pretty concerned because I actually thought my site had been hacked.
I checked everything that I knew of and didn’t have any solutions so I went to bed. I arose early and took a hike up a mountain with my dog to contemplate things.

I thought about what would happen if I didn’t have this Internet Business website and what I’d do if I had to start a new online business. Of course my number 1 tip for starting a new online business is Start an Online Business With Purpose.

It’s Not About “Circumstances”, It’s About “Purpose”

I realized that when things like this happen sometimes they are a blessing in disguise. In other words, it’s not an accident, at least my experience turned me towards evaluating. That’s why I believe that everything that happens has a “purpose” behind it.

After I contemplated things very seriously I contacted Hostgator, my web-host provider.  They quickly figured out that the WordPress database tables had crashed and reconstructed them.

Whew!

3 Ways To Plan Ahead Before You Start an Online Business.

Your online business should have a purpose. That’s what this website is all about. Purpose involves planning ahead.

Here’s 3 thoughts about planning ahead based on the experience I just described (thinking I may have to start my online business all over again).

1. Before You Start an Online Business Choose Your Market Wisely.

There’s a lot more to this than just making a choice. You need to do your research. Just in case your wondering, here’s the 3 top markets:

  • Making money online (internet marketing)
  • Weight Loss
  • Health/physical conditions (arthritis, etc.), etc.
All of these have to do with living the good life and “Lifestyle”.

2. Determine Who Will Be Your Target Audience

Who will be the core audience for your new online business? I know you’re going to be pulling a lot of different crowds from seo, but we also need to think about who would become a long-term reader.

Who are they?
You need to really think on this person so you can cater a little more to them.

How do you benefit them?
People want to know, “What’s in it for me?”

I strongly suggest that you define your target audience in the form of a missions statement.

I’m targeting new online business prospects like yourself and existing intermediate internet business owners who need to add “purpose to their business.

3. Consider a Foreign Market

If you have to start an online business for the first time or all over again consider starting it in another language besides English.

I live in the Country of Mexico. I also speak Spanish as a second language. I’m looking at the top markets in Spanish. Any of the big markets are possibilities.

The key here is knowing what the competition is doing and if you have an advantage. So You’ll again need to research and read to judge what the competition looks like.

If I would to start all over again I would be looking at the BIG markets and see if you could get a strong foothold in one without being overwhelmed by competition there.  If they
have the competition, then you start specializing down.

I’m practicing what I preach.  I looked at the Spanish Market and decided to do a new website on Lifestyle (estillo de vida) which covers all 3 of the big markets. It’s called ÉxitoSuccess, Éxito is Spanish For Success.

Finally, Once You Start an Online Business be sure to back it up.

When I thought that I’d lost all my online data the very next thought that came to my mind was “No need to worry, I’ve got it backed up“.

You can schedule it to send you a backup daily or weekly to your email address. (I created a separate email address for my scheduled back-ups)..

By the way, I’m not starting an Internet business all over again. The online business niche isn’t easy but I enjoy writing about it.
