Should you start an internet business?
While an online business may be profitable for some it may not be right for you. To help you in your decsion making process I’m about to provide 5 questions to ask yourself to help you determine if you should start an internet business.
1. Is it the right time to start an Internet business?
Is the timing right?
While you may be smart and intuitive, If internet marketing is not your gift, then it may not be right for you.
If you’re thinking of doing business online just because you’re at the bottom and perhaps out of a job then don’t do it. Some of the best decisions that you can make are when you’re at your peak . In other words, don’t decide to start just because you’re desperate.
Timing is essential in life, consider timing when you’re starting a online business.
If the timing is right, then today may be the right time to start an internet business.
Perhaps the following tips will help you decide…
2. Will I Stick With My New Home Business?
Do you have staying power?
What if you’re best case scenario doesn’t play out? Then what? Will you stick with your new business?
If you make a decision based on emotions you may not get the results you want.
If you’ve been following my blog for any time at all you know that I’m all about no hype internet marketing . So please don’t believe the claims others make like “in the next 7 days you will be rich”.
It almost never happens. It’s going to take longer than you think and most likely cost more than you can imagine in terms of time invested, skills to learn and finances invested.
Internet marketing is full of casualties. The majority of newbies with big dreams have dropped out. Despite what you see on other and hear being preached form top internet gurus, It’s not an easy busy to learn.
So if you start an online business, do you have the guts to finish what you start?
3. What is the Risk in Starting an Internet Business?
You can’t eliminate risk. However you can manage risk.
Ask yourself, If things don’t go as planned and I don’t immediately start making money can I take the hit and keep going?
What happens if the worst happens? How am I going to respond?
Internet Marketing, just like any other self employment type job involves taking risks. If you’re not a risk taker, you’re probably not a good candidate for doing business online.
Entrepreneurs take risks. If you’re game for extreme adventure then the online business world may be right for you.
4. What are my other options?
Before you decide to start an internet business ask yourself what other options are available.
If you don’t know the options, you’re stuck!
Some other options may include network marketing, advertising a personal service on Craig’s list or one of my favorites- ODesk , selling physical products on Ebay, or taking your personal service to the offline community.
When options are available you have the freedom to make creative decisions. More options means that you can see things more clearly. You can see what is NOT obvious to others. Options are the result of thinking early, often and differently.
Anybody can see the options, only the brilliant can see the possibilities.
Now it’s time for my most important tip for today…
5. Can I offer a Solution to Others in their Search for Online Information?
Here’s one win-win equation:
Find the Need
+
Meet the Need
=
Charity
I want to clarify by adding another point here-
Find a problem that people are willing to spend money on
+
Create a better solution
=
Success
You need to find a desire/problem that people are willing to and currently spending money on. Then create a better solution.
A lot of people make mistakes by looking for a need and finding a solution to that need.
What if no one excepts they “need” what you’re offering? And what if they can’t afford the real solution…or they’re not willing to pay for it?
The answer is to find people spending money and give them a better solution.
Now consider how you can make your internet business mutually beneficial.
Can you provide a service for someone while making a profit?
Can you provide a win-win solution?
One of my main principles in life is that of giving. I give before I receive.
The correct question to ask is Not “How can I help Myself?”
The correct questions is ” “How can I help you (others)?”
Meets others need and the return will keep coming back to you.
Start adding value, don’t just start an internet business to get an immediate return. Live a selfless life.
If you want to succeed online then you should consider that you need to provide a solution for others peoples problems. They need information that is significant. Significance is what I do for others.
Can you provide solutions and significance?
Here’s 3 ways to provide significance, solutions and success:
- Add value for others
- Partner with others, partnerships compound influence, effectiveness and results.
- Become a leader. Don’t go to the top alone, take others to the top with you by building relationships and leading them to solutions.
Remember… To succeed in a new internet business don’t think about what I can do for myself, instead consider, what can I do for others.
