15 Best SEO Plugins for Wordpress Blogs

by Greg Nemer on October 15, 2008

Which plug-ins should you be using on your blogs? Which plug-ins will help if you really want to be effective from an SEO or Search Engine Optimization standpoint?

If you are using your blog for internet marketing or as a CMS (Content Management System) website then you’re definitely going to want to add some effective plug-ins.

When writing Posts for SEO, here are the 3 most important things that you should do:

1. Look up keyword phrases Recently my favorite tool to lookup keyword phrases has become Google’s since they added the number of searches last month: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Here are some more tools for looking up keywords and phrases:

a. The SEO tool would be #2 on this. SEO Book Keyword suggestion Tool

b. Wordtracker Free Keyword Suggestion Tool

c. I also would count in the ability to find out out what other sites are
using for their keywords which would take a subscription to a site
such as http://www.spyfu.com

2. Put the Keyword phrases in your Title

3. Write on the subject using your keywords.

After some extensive searching and trying out different plug-ins I came up with this list of the top 15 Best plug ins. I also consulted with Coach Terry Dean who has a high page rank on his blog. I gleaned from His monthly Mentor Club which is excellent and His Internet Lifestyle System which can be found at http://www.InternetLifestyleSuccess.com

Here are the top 15 (plus some) plugins for wordpress in random order.

1. Google Analyticator

Google offers a free service called Google Analytics. This plugin adds the necessary JavaScript code to enable Google Analytics. You definitely want to track what is going on at your website.  This plugin will help you to get up and going without having to install the code in the html portion of your blog.

This plugin is not a necessity. There is an easier solution if you know any HTML- Simply add the Google Analytics code to the bottom HTML or footer of your theme.

2. Google XML Sitemaps

This plugin will create a Google sitemaps compliant XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. When you create or edit a post your sitemap is automatically updated and all the major search engines (Google, MSN search, Yahoo) are notified about the new entry. Google loves sitemaps and this plugin is an absolute necessity.

3. All in One SEO Pack

Optimizes your Wordpress blog for Search Engines. This is why its called the SEO Pack.(Search Engine Optimization). This plugin will help you to control factors such as Titles, Descriptions, Keywords, and Duplicate Content. There’s not much more to say. You definitely need it, especially if you don’t have a premium theme like the Thesis theme I’m using on this blog which optimizes my titles, descriptions and keywords for me.

Be sure to check out: WP Security Scan and search engine optimization plugin title meta description, meta keywords meta seo google and Post for more information.

4. Enforce www. Preference

This plugin will help preserve your permalinks by enforcing your no-www or yes-www preference (http://example.com/ vs. http://www.example.com/) and will strip off index.php from the ends of URIs.

When it comes to permalinks, I should also mention that I use a custom permalink code. Go to settings, then Permalinks, under common settings, check custom structure and add /%postname%/” (without the quotes) to the field and then save the page. This will allow each page to show a description based on your title and as opposed to a bunch of random numbers.

5. Popularity Contest

Would you like to see which of your posts are most popular? Then Go to AlexKing.org and install this plugin. This plugin will help you discover popular posts by tracking your views and comments which are given a configurable point values to determine popularity.

More of these types of plugins can be found at , , , , , , , and

6. Share This

Also at AlexKing.org you’ll find Share This Your visitors can share your content via social bookmarking sites and/or by emailing e-mailing the post to a friend when you install this popular plugin.  This plugin supports the Share Icon project For those who want a localizable version or do not like using widgets, the ShareThis Classic pluginis still available.

Be sure to start here: to customize the look of the ShareThis widget on your site as well as register for tracking of your sharing events. Then have at it with these related links:: yahoo my web, windows live, google bookmarks, aim, stumbleupon, socialize, myspace, Facebook, NewsVine, blogmarks, Blinklist, Furl, Tailrank, Reddit, technorati, Ma.gnolia, del.icio.us, Digg, network, social, bookmark, e-mail, email

7 .What Would Seth Godin Do

Invite first time visitors to sign up to your mailing list. When you use this plugin, new visitors to your blog will see a small box above each post containing the words “If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!” After 5 visits the message disappears. You can customize this message, its lifespan, and its location. As you may have noticed at the top of this post, I customized it to include my aweber optin form.

8. Simple Tags

What’s the benefit of Tags? Tags are a good way to organize large quantities of content on your blog. Search engines love tags. When you use tags your keywords will be displayed more. Many search engines use keywords for the all important page rank. High page ranks equals more traffic. If keywords are so important for page ranks then we should definitely be using tags. Besides manually adding tags any help from a plugin is beneficial.

There was once a very good tool called the Ultimate Tag Warrior I am waiting on the author to update this tool for wordpress applications 2.3 and higher. Until then, Christine offers a few other alternatives which she calls “things”: Here they are:

After doing some searching, I found this popular and “simple” plugin called Simple Tags

Simple Tags help you manage your tags for your posts. Here’s some of the benefits It covers :
  • related tags
  • AJax Admin features
  • Tags suggestions from Yahoo
  • Term Extractions API,
  • Tag The Net and Local Tags with AJAX request,
  • auto tags
  • and even auto link tags in post content.

Download Simple Tags and also check out these similar links concerning tags , , , , , , , , ,

9. Bookmark Me Plugin For WordPress

This plugin for WordPress lets you easily add links to social bookmarking sites like delicious, Digg, Yahoo and many more to your entries. I also found their free theme called the Semiologic theme to be quite nice since it offers a lot of customization features.

Besides these related links,Facebook, stumbleupon, delicious Digg bookmarks social bookmark and bookmark page Post you may also like the Sociable plugin which Automatically add links on your posts to popular social bookmarking sites. If that doesn’t work for you, try the All-in-one Bookmarking Button which Adds the SocialMarker.com bookmarking button at the bottom of every post.

10. Social Bookmark Creator

There is still more along the lines of social bookmarking. The Social Bookmark Creator plugin makes creating pre-coded social bookmark links very easy. This plugin can tie right into your blogging software or you can create links from static pages.. Buttons include Google Bookmarks, StumbleUpon, Squidoo, Del.icio.us, Spurl, Digg and many more.

Related plugins can be found at bookmarks, social bookmark ,and  bookmark.

11. Dofollow

From Semilogic, The same authors of the Bookmark Me plugin comes Dofollow. This is a simple but effective plugin for wordpress because It lets you remove the evil “nofollow “ attribute from your comments.

Why is nofollow evil? The following comment is from 13 Reasons Why No Follow Tags Suck. “The NoFollow link attribute (rel=”nofollow”) was originally created to block search engines from following links in blog comments, due to the amount of blog comment spamming.” So if your a good guy you’ll get rid of the evil “Nofollow” attriburtes in your blog.

12. WP Ajax Edit Comments plugin

While we’re commenting on plugins for editing comments, both users and administrators can edit comments using the WP Ajax Edit Comments plugin;. You may also want to watch this video on the Ajax edit comments plugin.

Similar links can be found here: admin comment edit comments AJAX

13.. Breadcrumb NavXT

This plugin generates breadcrumb trails from different locations for your WordPress blog. These trails represent the hierarchy leading up to the current page rather than the actual path taken to arrive at the current page. These Breadcrumb trails can be customized to suit your needs and are a good supplementary navigation system that aid in site usability.

What’s a breadcrumb? Is it for the birds? Breadcrumbs are a secondary navigation. Sitemaps are number one when it comes to navigation. Breadcrumbs aid your visitors in understanding where they are in relation to the rest of the site. Also, the visitor can click on a link to access higher levels on your site through breadcrumbs. What’s more, since breadcrumbs are small, they take up very little space.

Here are some related plugins:navigation breadcrumb

14.Comment Timeout

Comment Timeout closes comments on old posts on your blog. It also allows you to keep comments open for longer if you have recently had any comments. Version 2.0 also helps with per-post settings, extends discussions for popular posts, sends comments to a moderation que and even gives advance warning when a discussion is about to close

Here are some related links widget, comments

15. Akismet

Last, but not least, don’t forget to activate your Akismet plugin which will greatly reduce spam. You’ll need to look up your WordPress.com API key to use it.

Related plugins can be found at spam comments and Akismet

Most Popular Wordpress Plugins

Many of the plugins I have mentioned are listed in “WordPress Most Popular Plugins.”

Would you like to see the most popular plugins in random order? Here are the highest ranking plugins for wordpress by number of downloads.

The All in One SEO Pack is at the top of the list. If I had to choose only one plugin for purposes of SEO I would probably go with the Google XML Sitemaps Plugin since Google places a lot of importance on a site having it’s own map.

Also Don’t forget to add these important links to your blog or website for optimum SEO benefits:

I trust that these plugins will help you to optimize your blog for maximum Search and business building effectiveness. For now,  I have installed most of these plugins on this site. That said, I am open to new plugins. You may know of some excellent plugins that I am not familiar with. I appreciate any comments or suggestions that you may wish to offer.

Why Continuity Products Are Good For Your Business

by Greg Nemer on October 10, 2008

Every month, Terry Dean sends me his Monthly Mentor Club Newsletter. I am always very anxious to receive it.  He receives a monthly income from me which I am happy to pay out because I am receiving a quality product.

You’ve probably heard the online saying, “Content is King.”

That’s actually a little debatable, because without a little marketing no one will find it.

I want to introduce you to another key element of your business.

Continuity is King.

Terry Dean sold his business in 2004 but kept his continuity products. Why did he keep his continuity products and sell off other elements of his business?

Simple. Continuity income is residual income. It’s hands free income that comes in every month.

That of course is the best kind of continuity income…money that comes in each month without you having to do anything else for it.

As I mentioned, a very good example of continuity income is Terry Dean’s Monthly Mentor Club print newsletter which comes out every month.

This newsletter takes around 2 days total to produce each month (not too big of an investment). And  Terry does not outsource any of the writing for it. Yet it produces thousands of dollars in profit for his business every month.

The beauty is that some customers have been members since the very first month it came out. I have been a member since January of this year.

He sells it once and members like me stay for months (or even years). Credits card payments are made out to him on a monthly basis. Compare that to some of my low cost products such as my Graphical Opt in Boxes. If I  If I don’t do a promotion for that one time product,  then sales aren’t made.

Which one do you think I prefer to spend the majority of my selling attention on?

That’s right. Continuity is king. As we move towards 2009 you’re going to see me concentrating more and more on Terry Deans  Monthly Mentor Club. In fact, Terry has a few surprises for all the members coming up as he expands on the site and adds in the “gold” membership option.

You may be wondering what the October issue is about? Continuity of course.

Today at 9 AM Eastern, Terry uploaded the October print newsletter issue for mailing. Make sure you subscribe to get this month’s issue.

Subscribe here…

Here is a copy of the first page of the newsletter.

I have to apologize to you, my reader. I’ve been looking at my back issues. While I’ve covered a ton of information designed to help you improve your profits online, I’ve been neglecting one of the most
important elements.

Of course I’ve mentioned it before, but I really haven’t given it the proper focus.

My business sells ebooks. My business sells CDs and DVDs. I even sell full home study kits.

But my favorite income stream is continuity income.

This is consistent money that comes in month after month. On day one you already have a specific amount of money scheduled to come in. Even if you don’t sell a single new customer this month, you still have more than enough money coming in.

Right now in my business I have multiple forms of continuity income.

For example, this print newsletter you’re reading right now is one form of continuity income. I charge monthly for it. You sign up once and you continue to receive it each month unless you cancel.

I also have the Netofficetoolbox.com site which is a private label of 1ShoppingCart. When I sold off
other portions of my internet marketing business (including even my email list) in 2004, I kept my private label. Why?

Simple. It’s reliable consistent monthly income that I don’t do anything for. While I actually have to
write this monthly newsletter (nope I don’t outsource the writing of this newsletter at all), all the customer support and processing for the 1shoppingcart site is handled by their company. I don’t do squat for it.

Each month I get a check in the mail from them for the clients I’ve referred over the years. The best
part…is that once someone starts using the system and they’ve integrated their business into it, they rarely cancel their account.

Think about what this means.

It means I saw more value in the continuity program than even the email list. The email list takes regular follow-up to make valuable while this system shares the money with me month after month even though I didn’t refer a single new client to the service for 2 years.

Besides the above two forms of continuity, I also have my monthly coaching clients (all coaching clients sign up for a monthly program) and partial ownership in a couple of other membership sites.

What kinds of continuity income do you currently have coming in?

Since I consider you my clients, even though you’re not private clients, I want to set a goal for you to create at least 1 form of continuity income within the next 60 days…and have at least 2 continuity incomes in 2009.

What type of program? I’m not going to require a specific type of program because everyone’s market is a little different. During the rest of this issue I’m going to go over some of the different forms of monthly income and how to choose the right one for your situation.

Of course, like usual, you can expect little tips and tricks to boost your monthly income all throughout the issue.

Do You Have Any Questions About Wordpress Blogs?

by Greg Nemer on October 8, 2008

As you know, finding quality advice on how to setup a blog or get the best results out of it is expensive.

Normally coaching costs quite a bit.  For example, I have my own Internet mentor which I’ve mentioned on other posts.  This isn’t cheap, but it’s worth every penny.

But I’m going to do something very special for a limited time only…

Do you have questions that you need answered about setting up your blog?

I’m going to answer your questions…FOR FREE…right here on the blog.

If I don’t know the answer I’ll use my contacts to find out the best answer for you.

Here’s why I’m doing this:

1. Your questions will give me  the perfect environment for writing relevant content for beginning internet marketers.
2. I would like to build up good customer relationships in addition to a mailing list because in internet marketing, “The money is in a relationship with a list”
3. I am trying to build up traffic for my new Real Life Purpose Blog . Questions and Answers are a good method for generating traffic.

All you have to do is post a comment and I’ll answer it on the blog . You will want to make sure that your comment has your website URL in the signature. That will give you a back link and also help you with your page rank.

I have had a lot of people write me and ask me questions such as:

  • How do I install a blog?
  • What themes should I use?
  • What plugins do I use?
  • How do I optimize my site for the search engines and people to find me?

Here’s my latest email correspondence from Jim at Esther Naturally.com:

Dear Greg,

We took your advice and applied to Google Adsense last week and were approved.  Now I have a question. After we have generated the ad code that we want in Adsense, can we paste it directly into our blogs in the Write Blog section of WordPress? If we can do this, I think we are ready to get started.

Thanks so much for all the help you have been to us.

Jim

Here’s my response:

Good to hear from you guys.
Yes you can place the code directly in your blog post. Here’s the steps to ad adsense to your posts:

  1. Log in to your blog. http://www.(sitename.com/wp-admin)
  2. Once you’ve entered your admin name and password, Go to write the write tab
  3. Select the post tab . (you can do the same thing in the “page” tab
  4. Enter the content for your post. If you haven’t specifically designated special keywords for adsense to use,, adsense will place ads based on the content of your site
  5. Now it’s time to add the adsense html codes which you have copied from your adsense account. You have to switch to the html tab next to “visual” when you add the code:
  6. Simply paste the code where you want it to show up: It should look something like this:

That’s all it is to it. Don’t forget to add your tags to your post and to publish the entry. You may also want to note that it generally takes adsense 10 minutes or so before the ads show up correctly. Don’t be alarmed if you don’t see the ads right away. I just wrote an article on plugins and if you are not using them they can be of great benefit to you. I will not be publishing the article until Oct 15th because I’ve been working on getting the absolute best benefit out of it (even asking my mentor if he had anything to add). If you are already signed up for my mailing list you will receive it automatically as soon as it is posted. If you haven’t signed up to receive my blog posts (plus a couple of freebies) you can do so by using this form:

There are also some great plugins for adsense integration. Here’s a link to a page I found for that:

10 Best Wordpress Plugins For Google Adsense

The first two: Adsense Deluxe and  Adsense Injection are worth trying out.

To Real Success With Life Purpose,

Greg Nemer

p.s. The Q & A sessions are now open. What’s your question?

iThemes 2008 Theme Club Delivers Great Service

by Greg Nemer on October 2, 2008

Download the Premium Theme Buyers Guide And Get your 25% Discount….

Read About my Experience with iThemes

As a customer for the iThemes developer pack I must say that I was a little weary when they came out with a new Club for premium wordpress themes.

As an existing customer how would they treat me?

Would I be able to get in on some of the great new themes that they are offering without being price gouged like at the gas pumps?

I waited for almost a month before I finally decided to contact Cory Miller who is the co-founder of iThemes Media LLC. I contacted customer service through the new live support service and began to fire away with my questions (I have included in the transcript at the bottom of this post)

What a great experience. I want to tell you that when I talked with iThemes I was amazed at the treatment that I received. The iThemes Customer service representative made every provision to treat me with respect and preference as a customer.

iThemes also gave me an upgrade from my developer package to the new iThemes Theme Club at no cost. I must say, I thought they would charge me so I was very pleasantly surprised.

Cory Miller and his expanded staff, Nathan Rice, James Dalman, Jesse Petersen and Chris Jean are putting out some excellent new themes.

I really like their new bSocial theme. which is loaded with features:

iThemes bSocial Theme

iThemes bSocial Theme

· Highlighted Content via the front three feature boxes

· the ability to upload new graphics or your logo with a custom image uploader

· a link to easily access all your social networking

· and it is optimized for search engines like Google.

In addition to my most recent conversation with iThemes, the excellent customer service, and the great themes I should mention that the iThemes website provides some great quality information on wordpress blogging. They even provide free wordpress video tutorials on the basics, optimization and even how to set up and customize their themes.

Cory Miller and his team have also written a report that is very relevant for anyone who wishes to find out more information regarding premium themes and the benefits associated with it. Be sure and download your free pdf report “Premium Theme Buyer’s Guide” below. It will help you pick the premium theme that is right for you plus you’ll receive a special discount code to get 25% off any iThemes Wordpress premium theme.

Download the Premium Theme Buyers Guide

I highly recommend iThemes.

My Internet Mentor’s Monthly Newsletter

by Greg Nemer on September 30, 2008

I feel very privileged to have Terry Dean as my coach and mentor. Terry Dean coaches entrepreneurs on how to improve their business results. He may not necessarily be the perfect coach for everyone because his fees aren’t cheap. This is because he provides direct access to a real expert who has been living full-time online for more than a decade (many “coaching” programs only let you contact an employee instead of the real expert).

This is especially true since he doesn’t require long-term commitments.  If you’re interested in one-on-one mentoring for your online business, you can find out more about my coach here:

http://www.myownwebmentor.com

But that’s not what I wanted to share with you today.

Terry Dean also has a mentoring version ANYONE can afford.  If you’re
serious about succeeding in your online business you need to become
a member as soon as possible.

It’s the Monthly Mentor Club:

http://www.monthlymemberclub.com

Each month Terry Dean provides you with an up-to-date training newsletter
sent to you in the mail. These newsletters are excellent.

Some of the subjects he’s covered previously have been:

- How to Create a 30 Day Promotional Calendar
- 5 Ways to Research Your Market to Guarantee Your Success
- Earn Instant Cash by Becoming a Local Internet Consultant
- 8 Millionaire Principles You Won’t Hear on the Forums
- 10 Quick Strategies to Boost the Profits of Any Online Business

BUT you can’t get those issues…

As each issue is published, it is sent out by mail and available
online in a PDF format.  Once the next issue is ready, the old
issues are removed.

In each issue you discover how to Earn More, Work Less, and
Enjoy Life.

And here’s the big secret.  Terry Dean writes every word of the issues.

This isn’t the normal approach in today’s outsourced world.
Purchase many of the newsletters or memberships out there, and
just like coaching…the EXPERT never has the time to actually train
you.  They hire some cheap ghost writer to create their newsletter
for you.

Even if it is a gorgeous full color magazine, who cares if the
information hasn’t been proven by the expert themselves?

The Monthly Mentor Club doesn’t look fancy.  It’s black and white,
but it is 11 pages of hardcore Internet marketing information
designed to give you a FULL BLUEPRINT every month on how to earn
more money online while living the Internet Lifestyle.

Find out more about my coach here:

http://www.monthlymemberclub.com

I don’t want to go into detail about everything you receive
the moment you subscribe, but Terry Dean has loaded the site with instant
bonuses just for giving it a try.

http://www.monthlymemberclub.com

I would also like to provide you with a FREE Report by Terry Dean called “10 Key Strategies for Any Business Owner to Earn More, Work Less, and Enjoy Life”

You’ll discover simple strategies on these topics:

1-implementing your gifts

2-vision

3-motivation

4-teams

5-marketing engines

6-business systematization

7-customer service

8-lifestyle enhancement

9-financial management

Terry Addresses Local Businesses in His Newsletter

by Greg Nemer on September 25, 2008

On September 10th my Mentor, Terry Dean, sent out his Monthly Mentor Club newsletter.

This month issue was of special value to me since I have just started a web page design company in the country of Mexico where I live. It is called Chiapas Net. We build web pages using the wordpress blog platform and offer different themes that can be customized to fit our customers needs.

This month’s issue is all about making money as an internet consultant to local businesses in your area.

In this month’s issue Terry covered:

- How to Become a Rainmaker for Local Businesses
- How to Know If You’re Qualified
- What to Charge
- Where to Get Started On Your First Few Clients
- Business Card Strategies
- Marketing Strategies
- Simple Website Design for Local Business
- Search Engine Optimization

All focused on earning a quick income from the internet skills you’ve already built through this blog and any of your other internet research. It’s shocking just how little the average business person knows about marketing online. This issue can be your key to a fantastic business opportunity.

Here’s an excerpt from the September issue which was sent out at 9 AM on the 10th. You’ll notice that it is of special value to me as in my website design business.

What types of services do local business owners need?

Obviously they need websites designed to generate leads. This may consist of getting people on a list or getting them to call/visit the place of business. Having a blog section even if you don’t call it a blog is very useful because it allows them to post new content, specials, etc. without technical skills.

From the business owners I’ve dealt with, being “held hostage” by their previous website designer has been a major problem. They can’t modify the pages themselves, and they find it hard to contact the designer when they need changes.

Search engine optimization is another key element of what they’re looking for. While competing for top positions in the worldwide market can often be tough, getting top positions locally is still pretty easy in the majority of markets.

Of course included in this is submitting to Google Local and a few of the other local search engines:

http://local.google.com
http://local.yahoo.com
http://cityguides.msn.com
http://www.superpages.com
http://truelocal.com

You can also submit to some additional city portals such as:

http://www.citysearch.com
http://www.judysbook.com
http://www.insiderpages.com

We’ll cover the basics of getting good search engine positions locally a little later on in the newsletter.

You could also work on PPC advertising for the local business. Charge them a monthly management fee in addition to the per click charges from Google. Or of course we could move back to charging them per lead produced this way. Getting them to understand the payment per lead is much easier than understanding the per click value.

The pay per click model of course works best with high transaction businesses. If you’re working with a real estate agent, mortgage broker, roofing contractor, landscaper, RV dealer, they can afford much higher per expenses for each of their qualified leads.

Those are often the businesses local lead generators specifically target…those who have high transaction value and can easily afford $50+ per high quality lead.

In addition to the above, you’ll also find many local business owners need better sales pitches written for them. This includes the website text along with creating a sequential autoresponder series for them.

Keep in mind that you will often need to modify their sales pitch when putting together a lead generation page or an autoresponder series for them. They often don’t know what in the world they’re doing when it comes to selling in print.

Quick Tip: If they have a great sales person, get the opportunity to interview them. They’ll provide all
the material you need to put together good pages and messages. The same presentation a great sales person would do in person is going to be very similar to what works on their website.

I highly reccomend this valuble Monthly Newsletter. Subscribe to the Monthly Mentor Club to receive the next issue before the 10th.

After years of not using Quicken anymore for my personal and business finances I decided that it was now time to do so. Well at least I am going to give them a try.  However, What if their software is not exactly what I need. It’s best to use their free trial. Quicken clearly offers a free 60-day trial for its online subscription version of Quicken 2008, buy they weren’t very forthcoming about any trials for their old-school downloadable-software versions.

After doing some research on Google for a few minutes - I found a link to a trial version for Quicken Deluxe 2008 -

Here it is:    Quicken Deluxe 2008 Free Trial

That said,  I really wanted to try out the Home & Business version - which I couldn’t find anything about.

After some further “advanced research” (guessing URLs) - I hit the jackpot and came up with links for various Quicken 2008 Trials.

Here’s all of them:

Quicken Starter Edition 2008 Free Trial

Quicken Deluxe 2008 Free Trial

Quicken Premier 2008 Free Trial

Quicken Home & Business 2008 Free Trial

If you look at some of my previous posts you’ll also find some good information for free. I’m also giving away some excellent resources when you sign up for my mailing list.
