Everytime I post a new article to this blog, my social networks (including Facebook and Twitter) are automatically notified of the fresh content. I even send out an email notifying my subscribers when there is new content posted on my blog.
After receiving one of these emails, a friend of mine replied to my email asking me the following question:
“Can you outline what procedures you go through for me on posting an article on your blog then updating your Social Networks then blasting out this email…. I’m trying to connect all the dots.”
I decided to answer his question on this blog so it would help my other readers and subscribers also. I use a lot of different tools and resources to automate my internet business. Hopefully the information covered here will help you.
If you have internet business questions I’ll try and answer them but I’d prefer for you to ask them in the comment section of any article on this site
My Favorite Tool For Updating Social Networks
I really like Ping.fm . Ping.fm just got even better since it was just acquired by Seesmic. Seesmic is my preferred choice of monitoring my social networks, but that’s another article.(Ping.fm and Seesmic are both free resources)
Using Ping.fm is easy. Simply go to it and add your social networks to it. You’lll have to enter your twitter id and or your facebook id under the Add More Networks or settings links in ping.fm.
Once you’ve set up Ping.fm to “ping” your social networks or even your email account then you can drag a button to your web browser (I use Firefox) and click on it to post articles from any website, including your own to your social networks.
Try dragging the following app to your toolbar now:
Actually there is a whole list of featured applications for ping.fm including a toolbar and some great Firefox plugins such as Ping Fire on their website.
How To Notify Social Networks that you have a new article using Ping.fm:
Simple.
- Set up Ping.fm to ping your twitter and facebook accounts
- Drag the Ping this! button to your web browser.
- Write and publish your article
- Go To the newly published article and click on the Ping this button that you’ve place on your web browser.
- That’s it.
What if you want to post to more than one twitter account? I’ve got that covered also. See this VERY popular article that I wrote quite a while back: http://www.reallifepurpose.com/setting-up-2-twiiter-accounts-with-pingfm/
Notify Twitter When You Post an Article Using the Pretty Link Pro WordPress Plugin
There are a lot of wordpress plugins available for pinging your social networks. I’ve tried a few of them and also had my share of problems from a few of them. I’m an avid Pretty Link Pro user and have eliminated quite a few plugins by using pretty link.
The Pretty Link Pro version allows you to automatically notify twitter when you post an article to you blog. Since all that is involved is entering your twitter id this is an easy solution for getting the word out.
Pretty Link Pro also has an integrated Tweet Badge, Twitter Conversations panel and Social Buttons bar that you’ll be able to put on your posts and/or pages. The Tweet Badge shows your current tweet count and encourages others to re-tweet your content–this a fantastic way to get the message out about your site.
I’ve written about Pretty link before. Read this related article: 5 Reasons Why Pretty Link Pro Will Save You Time, Effort and Money as You Blog
This plugin will cost you a little bit but it’s worth paying for. Theres also a free pretty link plugin if you want to try out some of the features.
Use Aweber To Automatically Send out email Notifications and Inform Twitter when You Post a New Blog Article
I use aweber for automatically suscribing customers to this blog and sending out emails. Aweber is the very best autoresponder service that I know of.
One of the overlooked features of aweber is the ability to automatically broadcast RSS feeds. This means that you can set aweber up to automatically inform everyone on your mailing list whenever you post a new article to your blog. That’s how I do it.
I’ve also entered my twitter account id into aweber and it automatically informs my twitter followers when I post a new article.
It’s really pretty easy to notify your social networks or email subscribers when you post a new article to your blog, if you have the right tools and resources. I hope this article is a help to you. Let me know if you need more explanation in the comment form below.

This was a VERY GOOD article and answered so many of my questions, PLUS…, connected the dots.
Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise with me and everyone else reading your great work here.

Greg,
Here is another question for you… What if I have multiple blogs and multiple Twitter and Facebook accounts… Do I need to have multiple ping accounts so I can direct the right blog post to the right Twitter account or Facebook account?

Hi Steve,
Let me answer your question- It depends on what service your using.
Like I said, I use, ping.fm, pretttylinkpro, and aweber. Here’s a brief breakdown of the 3:
1. I send ll my blog posts to all of my twitter accounts through ping.fm. Since ping.fm still doesn’t allow you to post to multiple twitter account I also use http://Shoutem.com which allows you to forward your pings to twitter and even Facebook. More info here- http://www.reallifepurpose.com/setting-up-2-twiiter-accounts-with-pingfm/ Usually, after I write a post, I simply click on the Ping This button for the while I’m on my newly published article page.
2. I have http://www.prettylinkspro.com set up on multiple websites. For example, If someone is interested in internet business resources, this website is set up to go to my twitter followers at @gregnemer. When I post an article from my missions website I have it setup for @PacePlan.
3. Aweber offers the best customization of all since you can set up each individual mailing list to automatically post your RSS feeds to the twitter account of your choice. Since I’ve already set it up I never have to worry about informing my twitter followers when I post an article.
I inform My Social Networks using all 3 methods. You’ve probably noticed that you get the same message at least twice, depending on which list you are following me on.
I hope this helps.
I have use a service onlywire to notify and I use ping – It’s good for letting the world know about what content you have produced but I’ve most have become no follow sites so that part is pretty week. I added this post to my latest post. I think this may be the best way forward for all of us in the “biz” as there is tons of business to go around. Thoughts????

Hi Jake,
I’m also using Hootsuite since it is easy to inform multiple social services when you post an article.
