In my last article called “Am I A Pansy”, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Internet Marketers, I informed you on the bad and the ugly in internet marketing. I also confessed to my crime of silence.
In this article you’ll discover the GOOD Guys and the criteria or reason why these internet markets are on my list..
But before I provide the list I want to leave you with another view on lists. I love lists. In fact I’ve made quite a few lists in the past like these ones-
The Very Best Successful Blogs- I’ve listed some of my favorite blogs to follow. These are the very best in my opinion.
Honest Internet Marketers- My list of Honest Internet Marketers
But making a list CAN BE DANGEROUS!
Why Making a List of Good Internet Marketers Can Be Dangerous
In my last article, I mentioned the storm that brewed up after Ryan Healy posted an article on The Bad Guys in Internet Marketing. Well Ryan decided to focus on the positive and wrote 2 more articles, Forgiveness in an Age of Revenge and Nominate Your Favorite Internet Marketer.
Now the idea to nominate your favorite internet marketer is a great idea in my opinion. In fact I commented on Ryan’s website and nominated my favorite. However at the same time, I was surprised to see some of the names that were already on the list. How easily we are deceived. So I told Ryan so and he agreed.
But I didn’t expect the next comment which is the reason why making a list can be dangerous even if you’re Santa Claus and you’re checking it twice.
The comment came from Sylvie Fortin who wrote another controversial report called Internet Marketing Sins. Here’s why she says making a list can be dangerous:
It always opens up a fresh new can of worms, the moment you start a list like this.
Problem #1: The risk of accidentally putting a bad guy on a list of good guys…
In cases like this, you risk inadvertently putting a bad marketer’s name on the list of good guys, because his or her bad deeds might not yet be publicly known. Later, this one turns out to be a shmuck, and you’re known as the one who says he was a good guy. Now, people blame you if the “bad guy” later scams them, or if they have a bad experience.
Problem #2: The risk of omitting a good guy…
What if you omit someone whose name should be on the list, simply because he or she isn’t well known enough to merit attention?
Or because he or she isn’t part of the “usual suspects” list and is just quietly doing their thing without fanfare?
Would someone who is investigating that person, and in the process of evaluating whether or not to do business with them, scan your list, fail to see that person’s name, and make a decision not to do business with them?
Thus, the problem.
I agree with Mrs. Fortin. Making a list can be dangerous. I went back through my list’s to see if they had changed. Perhaps one of my good guys turned out to be a bad guy. Nope. So far so good. Whew!
Ryan’s list will probably have some disclaimers, like claiming full responsibility of the list by calling it “Ryan’s List of Trusted Internet Marketers”. He’ll most likely put a date on it with a disclaimer.
Silvie Fortin went on to comment:
Yep, and I think you’ll also find that this post, and the one you create that lists the “good guys”, won’t be nearly as popular as the “bad guy” post.
Sad, but unfortunately true.
Make it your own. Your experiences with said marketers. What you know based on experience. With tons of disclaimers that you can’t take any responsibility for what happens to others when they choose to buy products from any of them.
When you publicly take on the mantle of responsibility for stating who is good or bad, you take on all the rest of the pain that goes with it.
Just ask Santa. I wouldn’t want his job either.

OK. Good Criteria for a list. She is definitely right on people concentrating on the negative more than the positive and that’s why I’m going to give you my list of Good and Trusted Internet Marketers (Again).
But before I do here’s the criteria and disclaimers:
- This is Greg’s list, it is based on MY experiences with these marketers, hopefully my list will help you make up your own list.
- I may be inadvertently putting a bad marketer’s name on the list of good guys, because his or her bad deeds might not yet be publicly known.
- I have no way of knowing if this good guy will later turn out to be a smuck.
- I am most likely omitting some very good internet marketers who are not very well known or who I do not know that deserve to be on the list.
- I can’t take responsibility for what happens to you when you choose to buy products from one of my recommended internet marketers but I can say that these guys have treated me right.
- Integrity is my number one criteria although educational, inspirational and informational benefits are taken into high consideration.
- Santa Claus has not helped me with this list. I’m not sure who is naughty and nice because I’m not God but the people on my list have exemplified some excellent works to me in the past and therefore I recommend them.
- My list may change in the future.
Finally, Read this article called Successful GunSmoke Blogging . I use John Wayne and Gunsmoke to provide my criteria for the most successful Marketers.
Greg’s List of The Good Guys and Gals -January 25, 2010
I’m making it short because I have longer lists at The Very Best Successful Blogs and Honest Internet Marketers
1. Terry Dean- He coaches me and has coached me for a while. He always over-delivers and exemplifies Integrity in Marketing. Called me biased if you want to. But if I’ve stayed with him for so long and respect him more than ever he must be doing something right.
2. Darren Rowse- From Problogger.net. He’s known as a blogger but is moving more and more into the Internet Marketing arena and although I don’t know him personally, he has exemplified integrity.
3. Maria Reyes McDavis- The Web Success Diva doesn’t like internet marketing fluff and she is currently providing some awesome videos that will help anyone interested in social marketing. Besides we need some gals on the list. She’s on my list because I correspond with her often and I know that she is sincere about her desire to help others.
4. Ryan Healy- Because he has the guts to make a list of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of Internet Marketers and also receive all the flack associated with such a list. Besides that, he’s an excellent copyrighter and has an informative blog. We comment on each others blogs.
5. Fred Black- He can help you with SEO, internet business, HTML, and he’s also a good friend who I trust.
Here’s my honorable mentions:
Gary Halbert- He passed away but his legends lives. His free letters are worth a fortune.
Perry Marshall- He gave me a neat autoresponder series called 7 Lies of Organized Religion years ago and has held a good reputation for years. I respect him.
Glenn Livingston- because Terry Dean recommends him and he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to PPC research.
Michel Fortin – Not much experience with him but I just quoted his wife, Sylvie and I do know he has incredible blog content.
Is My List Dangerous?
Ok, That’s my list. I think I’ve done a good job. What do you think? Is my list dangerous?

Greg – Thanks for including me in your list and for linking to my posts. I really appreciate it!
I’m guessing my list will end up being short like yours. It’s hard to recommend or endorse people you don’t really know, even if they are nominated by someone else.
Plus: Some of the people who have been nominated on my blog went to the Playboy Mansion for The Rich Jerk’s party a few years ago. And some were recently at Mike Filsaime’s affiliate appreciation event in Las Vegas — where there were 50 hired models.
Ugh.
That’s why it’s not just about business (for me). It’s about how you live your life.

I’m sure you’re going to have a list that I almost totally agree with. (can’t wait to see it!)
I’ll link to the list once it’s published.
I appreciate you and your great content!

re: “The risk of omitting a good guy…”
My “personal” take on this point of view is this: It’s like NOT
helping one unfortunate child because that would mean I am FORCED
to help ALL unfortunate kids in the world!
No, you’re not. And no, implied associations are ALWAYS going to
be derived from what you state, say or claim.
So just do it, if you must. Or don’t, if you’re not keen.
Naming names IS risky, dangerous – and necessary, at times.
And to suggest that omission from a list of “Good Guys” implies
that they are “Bad Guys” or vice versa is just disingenuous.
Again, this is my “personal” opinion/point of view – and needs no
“defending”, therefore no “attacking” to fell
I loved the way you started your list of disclaimers with:
“This is Greg’s list, it is based on MY experiences with these
marketers”
That’s all it takes to neutralize most other objections, right?!
Also, in a broader sense, “good” and “bad” are simplistic names
applied to a black-and-white world, the kind we loved to imagine
we live in as more innocent kids. Later, we realize most are
shaded gray – and learn to adapt to that reality… while we
continue to wish and yearn for a more simple “black or white”
distinction in everything!
Nice post.
All success

Dr. Mani,
Very well said.
My list is based mostly on my personal experience with internet marketers. I am SURE that I have left out some VERY GOOD internet Marketers in my list of good guys. And for that I am sorry that I haven’t had the honor of meeting all the other good guys.
I know you’re not “attacking”. Part of commenting on a blog post is to express your personal view. Those of us who are mature will understand that. Perhaps we’ll even disagree a little. In the end we’ll be even better friends because we help one another to grow.
You’re also right on the use of terms. I can’t even go there… because that’s a whole new blog post.
It’s really necessary to define, “What is a good guy? What makes someone a bad guy?
and
for that matter “What is an internet marketer?
Also, I looked at your blog and love the purpose behind it. It’s great to have an internet business with “Purpose”.
It looks like you’re doing your part in helping out at least some of the “unfortunate children of the world”.
