My Journey

I would like to tell you about my own journey in internet marketing.

I have been a missionary to Latin America since 1987.  At present time, I am helping Natives in the mountains of Chiapas.  When I first went to Central America, I had no idea what I was doing.  I just wanted to help those who were less fortunate than I am, so I did a little bit of everything.  However, after years of doing a little bit of everything I finally figured out that what I had accomplished was “a little bit.”

It wasn’t until years later that Rick Warren in his bestselling book* The Purpose Driven® Life: What on Earth Am I Here For? (Purpose Driven® Life, The) helped me to develop our P.E.A.C.E. plan, thus giving me a model for success.  He taught me the five purpose-driven principles to live by:

1. Worship – Have passion for what is most important to you
2. Fellowship – The importance of being with the right people
3. Discipleship –  Be in a constant state of growth, self-improvement, and learning
4. Service – Serve humanity in your own unique way
5. Mission – Reach out to others

We are now setting goals and achieving them.  What’s more, our charity work which can be found at Missions With Purpose.org can be defined as a success because we now have purpose.

I wish I could say that I learned from my past experiences when I embarked upon the internet marketing journey, but that is not the case.  I learned the hard way.

So how did I start? I began with an internet search for a weight-loss product and I stumbled upon the all time greatest fitness Bible by Tom Venuto.  His product is called Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. As I read his book and put it into action, I not only lost fat, but I got in shape.
One day, I got an (autoresponder) email from Tom saying that I could make money off of his product by becoming an affiliate.  I clicked on his affiliate program link and my internet marketing journey begun.

I didn’t know anything.  I didn’t know how to buy a domain name, how to put up a webpage, or even how to set up my own email address.  However, I liked his product, I knew what it had done for me, and I also needed some extra money.

My mistake when I started was that I jumped all over the place.  I tried Google AdWords, eBay, AdSense, affiliate marketing.  I tried it all.  I am not saying that any of these are wrong.  In fact, they all can be ingredients in your success if used correctly, but since I was trying all these things without really knowing how to implement any of them properly I ended up making little headway.  I spent money, but I didn’t MAKE money.

Then I made another major mistake that I do not want you to make.  Since I was now an “official affiliate marketer,” at least in my own eyes, I heard that I should sign up for as many newsletters as possible so I could learn from the other affiliate marketers.  Don’t get me wrong, it is good to learn from others.  In fact, we should follow the models that other successful marketers have already profiled for us.  The problem was that I spent all of my time jumping on a new bandwagon every time a new idea came out.  Believe me, there are new eBooks, new secrets, and new affiliate marketers coming out every day.  Whenever someone tells you that, if you buy their product, you will become rich in such and such amount of time, beware!  I know.  I’ve jumped on a lot of “the latest and greatest” internet marketing bandwagons.

It was a short time ago that I found out about coachTerry Dean and immediately hired him as my mentor. He immediately helped me to get on track and to define my marketing strategies. Here are his exact words to me concerning my business:

“You’re going to have to become more specialized.  In other words, what will people think of when they think of you? Perry Marshall is Adwords.  Glenn Livingston is research. Each person has what they’re known for.  What is going to be your “brand.”  Although we don’t talk a lot about branding in direct response, it still comes heavily into play.  What is Gregory Nemer’s brand? Mine is Earn More, Work Less, Enjoy Life! which has a lot of connotations to it – partly showing I care more about lifestyle than just the money”

It hit me. I had no uniqueness in my internet marketing strategies. I was aimlessly wondering around on the internet. I immediately replied to Terry that most of my focus in life has been and is on “purpose”. Since that is the area in which I had the most experience and passion. Thus, “PURPOSE” became my purpose.

Since I don’t want you to end up wasting a lot of your valuable time, I decided to invest my time in this blogzine.  After learning from trial and error, I want you to know that you do not have to do the same thing.  I want you to discover your purpose in your life and particularly in your business.

To experience real success and to achieve your life’s purpose you must begin with something that you are passionate about. There is a lot more to success than just making money. Ask anyone who is making money but is a slave to their job or business. ” They are not running their business, their business is running them. Success is not measured in mere monetary value. Successful people enjoy life, and they enjoy their work and family. Moreover they also have the time to enjoy their success. They are not just 9 to 5 workers. They take vacations when they want to, and they have real life purpose. What this book is about is helping you so that you don’t have to re-invent the wheel.  I want to help others achieve the success they CAN have and deserve so that each and every one can live their purpose in life.

Just think about it.  If every person on earth was able to do what they were put on earth to do and earn their living from it, this would be a very different world with a lot of very relaxed, happy people in it.
