What is an Internet Business?

Defining an Internet Business needs to encompass all the possibilities.

So is someone who sells on eBay in an internet business,? I would say they are.

Is someone who earns profits by promoting affiliate products in an internet business? Yes they are.

What about Amazon which is primarily an online company but runs offline ads on TV?

Literally I see an “internet business” is when you use the internet as your primary business homebase (or storefront) instead of a brick-and-mortar physical location.

There are large and small internet businesses, but a major advantage they all share is they have lower overhead. You can have team members working for you around the world (with the decreased costs of doing this) and you can take advantage of all the advertising opportunities available on the Internet in addition to other media sources.

There are many different ideas and ways to make money online because there are many types of Internet Businesses. Doing business on the internet is only limited by ones creativity, passion and entrepreneurial abilities. I have listed some of the common types of internet businesses average people can start below.

1. Infopreneur – Publish your own information products or the products of others. Every one has a book in them, but this goes much deeper than just having a book. It includes digital downloads, CDs, DVDs, and even live events. Here are a few ways to provide informational products on the internet

selling your own product- one of the best ways to make money online is by creating and selling your own product.
outsourcing- You can pay someone else to write or design a product for you
PLR or RSR- purchase a product with private label or resell rights , customize it and resell it.

2. Affiliates - Promote other people’s products for a share of the money. No customer service, no merchant account, and much less hassles. You simply concentrate on sending traffic to high paying deals where you get a cut of the profits.

3. Coaching and Consulting - Use your expertise to help others in business or in their personal lives. For example, help dentists grow their business OR help mothers lose the weight.

4. Online Service Business - Have any skills people will pay for online? Includes transcriptionists, copywriters, virtual assistants, website designers, photographers, and more.

5. eBay - Become an expert as a specific type of product you either buy wholesale or scour your local area for. You could even be an expert at SELLING other people’s stuff on eBay for a commission.

6. e-Commerce - Find a product you can buy wholesale and setup a store to sell it online. Even bring in your own affiliates to drive traffic and make sales for you.

7. Niche Blogging- This final method is one of my favorite types of internet businesses but be aware that it may take a while to build. This online business encompasses some of the previously mentioned money making strategies.

Choose a niche that you are passionate about.
Install a Wordpress Blog.
Write articles providing valuable “how to” information.
Once you build up traffic monetize through ads, informational products, affiliate marketing, and even consulting.
